PhD fellowship in translational fibrosis research / life sciences (f/m/d)
Über uns:
We are an international and dynamic laboratory for translational fibrosis research. Our overarching aim is to delineate molecular mechanisms of tissue remodelling in fibrosing disorders as basis for novel therapeutic strategies. Systemic Sclerosis is our central model disease. We have a strong translational focus, which is also reflected in the tight collaboration of scientists and physician scientists within the group. Group leaders have more than 10 years clinical and scientific experience in the field and we cooperate with national and international partners in academics.
Aufgaben:
  • We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student (f/m/d) to work on a project focusing on mechanisms of tissue remodeling in Systemic Sclerosis as fibrosing model disease. Fibrosing diseases impose major socioeconomic burdens on modern societies and account for up to 45% of deaths in the developed world. Despite the huge medical need and first approved therapies the morbidity and mortality remain very high. New treatment options such as CD19.CART therapy offer new ways of deep immunosuppression. In this project we aim to characterize the mechanisms of CD19 mediated tissue remodeling compared to state-of-the art treatments.
  • The student (f/m/d) will work on established state-of the art techniques of molecular biology including immunofluorescence, RNA seq, Western blot, nucleofection and siRNA, reporter assay, ChIP assay. The student will also be involved in establishing novel analysis and imaging methods. Working with mouse experiments is optional.
Qualifikationen:
  • Graduation at a Master´s level (or equivalent) in biological or biomedical sciences with convincing results
  • Strong interest in biomedical research, discover new fields and establish of new protocols
  • Strong interest to work both independently and co-operatively within an international
  • Research team
  • At least basic bioinformatic knowledge
  • Good written and spoken English skills
  • experience in state of the art techniques of molecular biology and cell culture
Wir bieten:
  • Excellent resources including a fully-equipped laboratory for conducting experiments with state of the art in-vitro and in-vivo techniques of molecular biology
  • Access to a variety of imaging modalities in the Optical Imaging Center Erlangen (OICE), access to core units next Next Generation Sequencing, imaging mass cytometrie unit (CyTOF), among others
  • An empowering work environment embedded in the scientific infrastructure of the Department of Medicine 3 and University Hospital Erlangen
  • Structured mentoring by experienced principal investigators and the PI board of Medicine 3
  • Structured Graduation programs ( Life@FAU ( https://www.life.fau.de/en/ ) )
  • Interactions within a cooperative network in Department Medicine 3, Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen
  • And national and international cooperating partners
