PhD position (all genders welcome)
Aufgaben:
The PhD position is part of the subproject «Dynamics of arthropod diversity and ecosystem functioning», which aims for a better understanding how forest disturbance regimes affect dynamics of arthropod diversity (using moths as a model group) and ecosystem functioning at both local and regional scales. Specifically, the subproject aims at i) quantifying disturbance effects on moth communities and associated ecosystem functions, ii) quantifying biotic control potential of and tree resistance against pest and pathogen damage. In the course of the project, the successful candidate is thus expected to conduct extensive moth sampling (i.e. light trapping), perform predation experiments using dummy caterpillars, and to assess herbivory in various forests in north-western Germany. · Coordination and realization of field work (moth sampling, predation experiments etc.) in forests in north-west Germany · Moth identification and measurements of functional traits · Preparing research results for publication and presenting them at scientific conferences · Participation in the coordination of the subproject and close collaboration with other subprojects within DIVERSA
Qualifikationen:
· Completed Master's degree in Ecology, Biology, or a related discipline · Profound knowledge in terrestrial animal ecology/entomology and ecosystem functioning research · Good zoological species knowledge and experience in the identification of arthropods (ideally moths) · Excellent knowledge of ecological statistics, preferably in R · High motivation to work and communicate in an interdisciplinary research team · Willingness to undertake extensive field work in north-western Germany · Relevant language skills in German and English · Driving license class B
